What Does It Mean to Be a Colleiteiro?
The Heart of Galician Wine
We are “colleteiros” (winegrower-producers): artisan viticulturists and winemakers who work exclusively with our own grapes, carefully cultivated in Ribeiro and other wine regions of Galicia. We are heirs to a historic tradition, and we take pride in a way of making wine that is still alive today.
The figure of the colleiteiro exists exclusively within the Ribeiro Designation of Origin since 1987, as established in Article 17 of its Regulations. It is defined as a winery producing less than 60,000 liters per year, using only grapes from its own harvest. We do not buy grapes. We do not outsource our craft. Not a single bunch comes from outside.
We know what happens in every vine, every plot, every harvest. From vineyard to bottle, everything is done by us.
Craftsmanship with a Name
Our association—formerly the Association of Growers and Bottlers of Ribeiro and now the Galician Association of Artisan Winegrowers (Colleiteiros)—promotes a shared identity: that of the winegrower, extending its territorial scope across all of Galicia.
This means:
✅ Production fully tied to its origin
✅ Limited and controlled production
✅ Use of native grape varieties
✅ Responsible and sustainable farming
✅ Wines that express the land without filters
Commitment to the Land and the Future
We stand for:
- Sustainable and inclusive economic growth in rural Galicia
- Decent employment in the wine sector
- The fight against climate change
- A production model that respects the environment
