Philosophy and Objectives of the Association
The Galician Winegrowers Association defends a model for the Denomination of Origin based on differentiation through typicity, excellence, and the recovery of Ribeiro’s historical essence. This model, approved in assembly and submitted to the Regulatory Council, aims to restore Ribeiro wine to its true character, built over centuries of tradition, knowledge, and respect for the land.
Our objective is to reposition the Ribeiro brand as a benchmark of quality and authenticity, establishing a classification of wines according to their origin and ensuring that all of them maintain their Galician identity. We support a system that recognizes the work of the colleiteiro, producing wine from 100% native grape varieties. We also advocate for responsible viticulture that is consistent with the territory, proposing the reconversion of vineyards with foreign varieties and rejecting any expansion of the denomination’s boundaries while productive lands remain abandoned.
Our philosophy is simple and firm: quality and origin in every bottle. We are small wineries that work our own vineyards and produce our own wine, keeping alive a way of doing things that is passed down from generation to generation. Each colleiteiro is the guardian of a viticultural and cultural heritage that is part of Galicia’s identity.
We believe that the future of Ribeiro lies in a value-based model, not a volume-based one: through differentiation, excellence, and respect for our essence. We advocate for the modernization of Galician denominations, leadership in the market for native red wines, and a strong commitment to quality wine tourism, capable of turning Ribeiro into a unique and sustainable destination where wine is experienced as culture and emotion.
In the last sixty years, 85% of vineyard area has been lost, along with a significant part of our identity. At the Association, we are convinced that the future depends on returning our attention to the land and native grape varieties.
We aim to ensure the survival and prosperity of a unique wine-producing territory, so that Ribeiro continues to speak of its land with strength, with the clear and authentic voice of Galician wine.
